You always want to be careful about what you put on your face, but you don’t want to be spending a crazy amount of money either. Depending on your budget and how much you want to be spending on makeup, there are a few brands that I’ve tried and found that work pretty well for me.
First thing is you want to make sure you have a good facial scrub.
It’s crazy how much makeup that tends to get accumulated on your face because you didn’t remove it properly the night before (let’s be honest, we don’t all have time or the energy to remove our makeup before going to bed), so you want to make sure that you have a good facial scrub that you can clean your face with in the morning before applying your makeup. One brand that I have been using for years and find that works really well is Clean & Clear Morning Burst. You can find it pretty much anywhere. Overtime, I’ve noticed that my skin is much clearer and smoother.
If you have a pretty decent budget for makeup, one brand I definitely recommend is Chanel.
I’ve used their foundation and eyeliner and they are great when it comes to makeup. This was back when I used to live with my parents and before I had to worry about having a mortgage or bills to pay. Once I moved out, I had to cut down on some expenses and spending money on expensive makeup was one of the first things to go….
Chanel, in my opinion, has the best foundation out there. It’s so smooth that it doesn’t even feel like you’re wearing foundation. If you’re like me and you don’t like to feel like you have a second layer of skin on your face when you put on foundation, then you will definitely love the Smooth Effect Makeup Foundation by Chanel. It is a bit pricey and it won’t last you long, like maybe 6 to 8 weeks, but it’s fantastic. So if you have a bigger budget for makeup, definitely go with Chanel for their foundation.
After I had to give up my Chanel foundation (I think my heart broke a little that day), I had to find a foundation that worked for me and wasn’t to expensive. I tried a few different ones and ended up sticking with L’Oreal True Match for a while. It was okay, but it wasn’t as smooth as my Chanel and the color wasn’t perfect either (they didn’t have an exact match for my skin color). A little over a year ago I was visiting my family in D.C. for Thanksgiving. While I was there, I decided to check out what kind of foundations they had that could be better than what I was currently using.
My cousin had a friend who worked at Macy’s Makeup section. I explained to her what I was currently using, my issues and if I could get something like my Chanel but less pricey. She introduced me to Bare Minerals and my life has never been the same since. It’s amazing! It’s almost as smooth as my Chanel (I don’t think anything will ever top my Chanel foundation), but this is a close second. It’s really smooth and feels amazing. Lucky for me, they sell it at Sephora which we do have in Canada. It’s not to pricey (36$) and it will last you a good 3 months.
Unless you were born with a gift or are a professional makeup artist, I think every girl out there dreads applying eyeliner! You can never get it to go on properly, do a straight line or have both eyes match perfectly. I won’t even go near liquid eyeliner because that would be a recipe for disaster as far as I’m concerned. My sister who had a true gift when it came to makeup had introduced me to Chanel eyeliner. She said their eyeliner was pretty much dummy proof. She was right because I had no trouble using it at all. Once again, the only issue I have with Chanel is their price and the fact that it doesn’t last very long at all. Their eyeliner will last you about a month if you use it on a daily basis like me. I still haven’t found the perfect eyeliner, but these days I use Marcelle or Lise Watier. Their prices are more affordable but they won’t last long either, but honestly for the price I really don’t care because it’s about 70% cheaper than when I used to buy Chanel so I can’t really complain.
Last but definitely not least, mascara!
I am in love with Maybeline when it comes to their mascaras. They are amazing, last long and really not expensive! Did I mention that they are super affordable? Because who doesn’t love something that works well and is really price friendly? They don’t smudge, they’re water proof and they last you really long. I wear mascara on a daily basis and Maybeline mascara will last you about 2 months and you can find them at Wal-Mart for like under 10$. I’ve pretty much tried most of their different types of mascara and they all work great. My favorite would probably have to be the Falsies Volume Express and the Lash Sensational because they give you that nice (not too over the top) dramatic thick look.
I hope these tips were helpful and if you have any suggestions or comments, don’t hesitate to let me know! I would love to hear from you.
