I absolutely love reading a good thriller. That feeling when you just get completely hooked from the first page and can’t wait to see how the book is going to turnaround is my favorite. Thrillers are my favorite types of book to read because you just never know how the ending will turnout. And I especially love it when an author manages to keep me guessing until the very end. That, for me, is the definition of an excellent thriller book.
I’ve read my fair share of thriller books and these are the ones that have stuck with me the most:
THE WIVES, BY TARRYN FISHER
This book… omg! I don’t even know where to begin. Thursday shares her husband with two other wives. None of the wives have ever met one another. However, when the opportunity comes for Thursday to meet one of the other wives, she doesn’t hesitate. She soon starts discovering another side to her husband that has her thinking maybe she doesn’t really know him after all. You start reading this book thinking one thing, and you’re just completely blown away with how everything turns out. What I loved about this book was the closer I got to the end, the more questions I had. I love it when an author has me guessing until the very end. And the ending was just… WOW.
THE SUN DOWN MOTEL, BY SIMONE ST. JAMES
If you’re looking for a horror / thriller book, then I strongly suggest this book. The Sun Down Motel will have you at times scared and other times trying to figure out what happened. When Carly Kirk goes to the Sun Down Motel, she has one mission in mind: figure out what happened to her aunt who mysteriously disappeared during her night shift at the motel over 25 years ago. What follows is a series of unexplainable events at the motel. Ghost stories, a serial killer, a three decade investigation and so much more… this book will have you hanging on the edge of your seat.
THE SILENT PATIENT, BY ALEX MICHAELIDES
The Silent Patient has got to be one of my favorite psychological thrillers of all time. Power couple Alicia and Gabriel seem to have it all: a happy marriage, a nice house, and both successful in their careers. Which is why when Gabriel comes home one night after work and gets shot several times in the face by Alicia, the whole world is speechless. And that’s exactly what Alicia becomes: speechless. After shooting her husband, she never speaks again and ends up in a mental hospital. Years later, therapist Theo believes he can help Alicia speak again and find out what happened that faithful night. As we go back to that night and more into Alicia’s past, secrets are revealed and all is not what it seems. This book really had me guessing until the end, and I promise you, the ending will not disappoint.
THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR, SHARI LAPENA
I discovered Shari Lapena earlier this year and this is the second book of hers I’ve read (and definitely my favorite so far). I love it when I discover a new author that I love because that means I get a whole new series of books I get to read. The Couple Next Door is a psychological thriller of how well you really know your neighbors, or your family for that matter. When a tragic event happens one night during a small gathering, suspicions will arise and questions will be left unanswered. This is a book that will have you hooked from the very beginning and will leave you wanting more.
